Scheduled talks between SAG-AFTRA and the video game industry have concluded without reaching an agreement. In a joint statement, both parties stated that no deal had been reached, and the current agreement would remain in effect while final efforts to reach a deal were made.
This development follows a recent vote by SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000-strong membership to authorize a strike against ten major video game companies, with 98.32% voting in favor. The issues at stake in the video game contract negotiations, such as wages and artificial intelligence, are similar to those seen in the union’s 11-week strike in the film and TV industry.
The ten companies potentially facing a strike are:
- Activision Productions Inc.
- Blind light LLC
- Disney Character Voices Inc.
- Electronic Arts Productions Inc.
- Epic Games, Inc.
- Formosa Interactive LLC
- Insomniac Games Inc.
- Take 2 Productions Inc.
- Voiceworks Productions Inc.
- WB Games Inc.
The Interactive Media Agreement, the video game contract, received an extension to its expiration date a year ago and the last strike in 2016 lasted for 183 days. The previous strike against video game companies, which occurred in 2016-17, lasted 183 days. SAG-AFTRA has also been on strike against the TV and Film industry since July of this year.
