In a move to modernize Pakistan’s aging rail infrastructure and rebuild public trust in national transportation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the upgraded Pak Business Express. The newly revamped passenger train now offers a more efficient and comfortable travel experience between Lahore and Karachi—two of the country’s most vital urban centers.

The relaunch ceremony took place at Lahore Railway Station, where the Prime Minister inspected the refurbished facilities, which now include digital ticketing systems, upgraded air-conditioned coaches, and redesigned passenger lounges. The train is positioned as a premium offering for long-distance travelers, with European-style business class amenities setting a new benchmark for rail services in the country.
With a total journey time of 18.5 hours, the upgraded Pak Business Express promises not just speed, but also reliability, hygiene, and onboard comfort, qualities that Pakistan Railways has long struggled to consistently deliver. The Prime Minister commended Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi for leading what he described as a turnaround of a “collapsed system.” He also credited former minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for major land recovery efforts and earlier station upgrades under the previous administration.

This rail upgrade is part of a broader push to revamp public-sector services and national infrastructure. In his remarks, the Prime Minister linked this effort to wider economic reforms and ongoing diplomatic progress. He highlighted encouraging trends such as a 5% drop in inflation and new momentum under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), alongside improving ties with the United States.
The Pak Business Express relaunch signals more than just an improvement in train travel, it represents a renewed vision for state-run services. With consistent execution and public trust, this model could pave the way for further investment in Pakistan’s transportation sector.
