In a major step toward improving cross-border mobility, a new bus service now allows passengers to travel from Islamabad to Tashkurgan, China, for just Rs. 40,000. The route offers an affordable and convenient option for students, traders, and tourists looking to visit China by road.

The service, run by a private company, includes not just transportation but also a one-night stay and four meals, all covered in the ticket price. The total journey takes approximately 38 hours, including an overnight rest stop, with 26 hours of actual travel time along the scenic yet challenging route through the Khunjerab Pass.

The bus departs from Islamabad and travels north through the Karakoram Highway, eventually entering Chinese territory at one of the highest border crossings in the world.

While air travel remains the faster option, the newly launched bus service offers significant cost savings and an opportunity for travelers to experience the dramatic landscapes of Gilgit-Baltistan and Xinjiang.

According to the company’s official announcement, the service is expected to benefit the growing number of Pakistanis who live, work, or study in various Chinese cities. The ease of access could also open new doors for cross-border commerce, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
