A significant high-level meeting, chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, was held in Islamabad to discuss the future of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

During the meeting, attendees received a detailed briefing on PIA’s performance and issued a vital directive for the submission of a restructuring plan to the Economic Coordination Committee. PM Kakar emphasized PIA’s critical role as a national institution, underlining its history of providing air services and achieving global recognition.

He stressed the urgent need to improve air connectivity between remote regions and major cities in the country. To enhance customer satisfaction, the interim prime minister called for PIA flight schedules to be tailored for passenger convenience. He urged both PIA’s management and the Aviation Division to work diligently toward restoring the airline’s former reputation.

A pivotal outcome of the meeting was the directive to submit a comprehensive restructuring plan for PIA to the Economic Coordination Committee, demonstrating the government’s commitment to revitalizing the national carrier and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

The meeting also acknowledged recent amendments to the PIA Act of 2016, which may facilitate a potential overhaul of the airline.

Key government officials, including Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Advisor to the Caretaker Prime Minister Ahad Cheema and Adviser for Aviation Air Marshal (Retired) Farhat Hussain, participated in the meeting.
