Guillermo Sohnlein, co-founder of OceanGate, has set ambitious goals for the future of space exploration. After the unfortunate incident where OceanGate’s submersible met a catastrophic implosion during a voyage to the Titanic wreck, Sohnlein now envisions sending people to the hottest planet in our solar system, Venus, by the year 2050.

Venus

Through his new company, Humans2Venus, Sohnlein hopes to establish a colony of 1,000 humans on Venus, inspired by recent NASA findings suggesting the possibility of human existence in a portion of Venus’s atmosphere located 30 miles above its surface. While Venus is known for its toxic atmosphere and extreme conditions, Sohnlein believes that with advancements in technology and the determination of scientists and engineers, this aspiration could become a reality.

The tragic incident with the submersible raised concerns about the safety and regulation of such expeditions. While some have questioned the lack of safety audits by third parties, Sohnlein remains focused on his vision of human colonization beyond Earth, expressing faith in the capabilities of scientists and engineers to overcome the challenges presented by space exploration.

While the concept of colonizing Venus may seem aspirational, Sohnlein believes it is achievable and looks forward to pushing the boundaries of human exploration in the years to come.
