The UK is rolling out a major transformation. Beginning July 15, 2025, Pakistani students and workers no longer need visa stickers in their passports, eVisas will be issued instead. These digital visas are linked to your passport through a UKVI online account. This shift signals a leap toward faster, safer, and more convenient travel for Pakistani applicants.

Under this new system, long-term visa holders (like those coming for studies or skilled employment) must create a UKVI account, where their immigration status will be stored. For short-term visits (under six months), no account is required. The result? No more waiting for stickers, no risk of lost documents, and instant digital verification, saving time and stress.
This update comes alongside broader UK visa reforms announced in the Immigration White Paper. Key changes impact Pakistani applicants significantly:

- Permanent residency (settlement/citizenship) now requires 10 years of legal residence, double the previous rule.
- Skilled worker visas demand higher minimum salaries (£38,700), just graduated degrees, IELTS B1+, TB tests, and proof of funds (~£1,270 in savings).
- ETA digital permissions now apply to some travelers (though Pakistan is not yet included).
The eVisa system reduces friction at borders and during documentation checks. You can now confirm your status digitally for jobs, tenancy, and more, all without handing over your passport.
But there are growing challenges ahead. The increased financial requirements, English proficiency standards, and extended residency timelines make long-term UK migration tougher. And Pakistan remains excluded from ETA eligibility, meaning students and short-term workers still need full visa applications and fees.

Despite these stricter rules, experts say Pakistanis stand to gain from a smoother visa experience. University aspirants, health professionals, and skilled employees will benefit most from simplified processing and digital clarity. Yet many caution: eVisas are a convenience, not a loosened barrier.
What This Means for Pakistanis:

- Sign up for a UKVI account only if you’re applying for a long-term student or work visa.
- Digital visas remove sticker-related delays and hassles, but strict eligibility rules still apply.
- Long-term goals (settlement/citizenship) will take much longer, make plans accordingly.
- Pakistan isn’t part of ETA yet. Short-term visitors still face full visa procedures.
This new system brings modernization to UK–Pakistan migration. Easier, faster, and digital, but don’t mistake convenience for leniency. Preparation, thorough documentation, and compliance with new requirements remain key.
